2006 College Football Preview

Brady Quinn Next Thursday begins the race for the BCS title. The 2006 college football campaign kicks off on August 31 with games featuring Boston College and South Carolina on ESPN and ESPN2. When talking about team success, nothing translates into a better year than running the table and conquering all in the National Championship game. When speaking of individual performances, the Heisman is second-to-none and this year the race is as wide open as ever.

With so many teams that play every weekend, it sometimes is tough to distinguish which players are among college football’s elite. As well, it seems that week in and week out the best players in the nation are the difference-makers that force results to dictate how the season is going to be played out among the contenders and pretenders.

Rolling Wagers Make College Game Day Big
One thing betters should consider during the college football season is BetJamaica’s rolling wagers. They now offer this option to their customers that should help them to benefit during college football gamedays. Rolling wagers are particularly good when placing college football bets because of the amount of games that are played each Saturday. The term ‘virtual money’ is generally associated with rolling wagers because the bettor can put a forward wager on the outcome of a previous wager, allowing customers to get action on multiple games simultaneously.

Here are a number of individual performers that should be focused on as key impact players for the 2006 college football season:

Brady Quinn | QB | Notre Dame
The leader and sparkplug for the Irish offense, Quinn is close to a unanimous pick as the preseason favorite for the Heisman. With both his number one running back and wide receiver returning in the offense, Quinn and Notre Dame should put up major numbers throughout the year.

Adrian Peterson | RB | Oklahoma
Suffered a blow to his Heisman hopes when quarterback Rhett Bomar was dismissed from the Sooners. However, AD is clearly among the best players in the nation and should still surpass 1,500 yards out of the backfield, which may impress voters even more now that Bomar is out of the picture.

Troy Smith | QB | Ohio State
The best player on the best team in the country, at least according to most preseason polls. Troy Smith is this year’s version of Vince Young, although he may be a better overall pocket passer. The Buckeyes will have a formidable offense this season, and Smith will get plenty of recognition.

Steve Slaton | RB | West Virginia
A lightning-fast runner that burst on to the scene as a true freshman a year ago. His output in the Sugar Bowl against Georgia showed he is a legitimate threat every time he steps on the field. While the Mountaineers are a serious team that could go undefeated thanks to the sketchy Big East, his equally talented quarterback, Pat White, could take yards and scores away from his Heisman chances.

Calvin Johnson | WR | Georgia Tech
Physically overpowering and a menace to stop in single coverage, CJ is arguably the best wideout in the country. Playing in the ACC on a sub-par team has left him somewhat under the radar to this point. The Yellow Jackets are much improved and Johnson will finally get his due in ’06.

Chris Leak | QB | Florida
A gifted signal-caller who plys his trade in a conference that ranks among the best year in and year out. With the SEC full of talent on both sides of the ball, Leak and his Gators offense will rise to the top in year two of Urban Meyer’s spread-option system. Leak is mobile but chooses instead to use his pinpoint accuracy to pick apart defenses, and should do exactly that.
